THAT night is different from the
other night. The breeze was biting her bones. Although it had been 5 years
since she had staying in the huge Harwick’s mansion, she still felt this unusual
sense. She knew her father; Mr. Adam was in his reading room, as always. Her
beloved mother had passed away since 5 years ago. A car accident had killed
her. It was an enormous mansion left by their great grandfather, Jacob Harwick
for them. Mr. Adam did not want to move into the mansion at first but they had
no other choice, as they must get out from their lovely house. It was full of
memory of them with Carla, Mary’s mother. It was hard for them at first, as
they had to get used to the new surrounding. The vicinities felt strange when
Mr. Adam’s family first moved into the creepy mansion because there was no one
had ever lived in the house since the old man died. From then on, no one from
the neighborhood had ever tried to approach them.
Abruptly, from her dull room, she
heard peculiar reverberations from downstairs. It went like this, ‘crook,
crook, and crook’ and then it changed to ‘swish, swish, swish’. Mary was
startled by those noises. It seemed like someone was sitting on the rattan
chair and had the windows wide opened. She plumped to pursuit the noises she
heard. She took her steps cautiously downstairs as she did not want to wake her
father up. Oddly, the swishes brought her to her father’s reading room. She
opened the door and began to walk in. At the corner of the room, she saw a pile
of passé books. She roved towards the dusty books and started to sneeze. By a
quirk of fate, she had sneeze in front of an immense book. The book was very
ancient-looking as it was full of plant roots throughout it. In next to no
time, a golden round glimmering ball was floating in the air. ‘What is
happening?’ She cannot believe her eyes. Her petite fingers pushed the ball as
she wanted to deny of what she saw in front of her but it really was floating! Then,
the ball started to make its own path, which led her to a dusky tunnel. Behind
a creepy door, there was the tunnel.
As she walked in, a storm of wind
together with grey dust was forming before her. She stepped three steps
backward, shockingly. It last within 5 seconds before the storm vanished in the
thin air.
‘I
guess it is a welcoming sign’ said Mary.
Ignored what just happened, Mary continued
her journey to follow the glowing ball. She strode and strode until she stopped
with her jaw opened wide. She jolted as she saw a strange thing in front of
her. Just two meters away from her. She could feel the icy cold breeze. Mary
did not know what to do. She decided to turn back. Nevertheless, she felt her
wrist was burning and her feet cannot even move an inch. Her eyes were rolling
like a machine as she tried barely to look for any escape route. Hoping for
loopholes, she supposed she could run as far as she could. However, seeing her
body was freezing to death, she thought she just could not make it. Mary began
to think about her father. How he could feel lonely after she was gone. She closed
her eyes, as she was ready to die, to meet her longed mother.
‘Hey,
are you alright?’
